The developing Itineray

The process of developing the final itinerary will be very lengthy. It will depend on the numbers and types of aircraft participating and will involve compromise! The final draft will iteself need to be modified as weather affects the flight plan and in the event itself the most up-to-date information will be found on this page.

Stops will be determined by three factors
  1. Stops on the original route
  2. Historic points not used in 1919.
  3. Local enthusaism to participate.
The third factor is the most important!:

A very preliminary list of possible stops is as follows- (?) indicates no contact yet made, underlined stops have had preliminary contact and have indicated that they are keen to participate depending on

Darwin: Departure from museum ; Katherine (Tindal RAAF)*: Anthony Lagoon,  Brunette Downs,  Avon Downs,: these last 3 are AACO stations and preliminary contact has been made with Michael Johnson of Brunette Downs and more discssions are under way; Cloncurry; Longreach:*; Charleville; (last 3 are 1919 stops); Caboolture:*; Narromine; Luskintyre (?); Richmond; Albion Park HARS; Temora (?); CootamundraHenty;  Essendon; (intermediate stops to Adelaide not clear yet); arrival at Adelaide Sunday 22 March; two free days on journey to allow for delays.

For the 1914 Melbourne to Sydney commemoration flight a pilot handbook was prepared by consultant Tony Coleiro and a similar handbook will be prepared for the proposed flight. A.pdf copy of the 2014 handbook is here.

When the event is actually run, an up-to-date record of what has happened will be kept here and the itinerary will be modified as required.
